Revisiting The Potosí Principle Archive: Histories of Art and Extraction

Published in conjunction with ISLAA’s 2023–24 exhibition Revisiting The Potosí Principle Archive: Histories of Art and Extraction, this booklet extends the research of artists Alice Creischer and Andreas Siekmann’s The Potosí Principle Archive to the context of New York, a city that has reinforced and been shaped by distinct histories of colonial exploitation and dispossession. It brings together an essay by Pujan Karambeigi, a map designed by Ramon Tejada, and a series of short texts by an interdisciplinary group of writers on the manifold infrastructures of coloniality
in and around the greater New York City area. Connecting multiple pasts and presents, these reflections recount stories of financial, cultural, and intellectual forms of extraction, extending threads from the topics explored in Revisiting The Potosí Principle Archive to the exhibition’s surrounding context.
